Some members of the men’s national basketball team have landed in Lagos ahead of the FIBA World Cup China 2019 African qualifiers 2nd round Group F games which start in just four days. The duo of Benjamin Uzoh and Bryant Mbamalu arrived on Saturday, 8th September while the Al-farouq Aminu and high flyer Ike Nwamu arrived on Sunday night.

The captain of the team Ike Diogu and Deji Akindele are expected to arrive later tonight.

The players are excited about representing their country and wearing the green and white jersey.

In a statement at the airport by Ike Nwamu he said he is excited about representing his country, family and fans at home and bringing in scoring and defense to the team. He said further that the team is confident and prepared to take on their opponents Central Africa Republic, Cote DÍvoire  and Senegal.



Meanwhile, the National Women Basketball team yesterday defeated a selected men team from Raptors basketball academy in a tune up game for the Women world Cup in Tenerife, Spain.

The team captained by WNBA and Atlanta Dream player Adaora Elonu who sat on the bench throughout the game due to jetlag started the game on a slow note but took the lead towards the end of the game and eventually won by 74-71 points.

The women lost to the men in the previous game played last year when they were preparing for the Afrobasket Women Championship in 2017.
